The German Aero Club (DAeC), founded in 1950, is the supreme national representative for air sports in Germany and abroad. It has 21 members: 16 state associations as well as the German Parachuting Association (DFV), the German Free Balloon Association (DFSV), the German Hang Gliding Association (dhv), the German Ultralight Gliding Association (DULSV) and the Model Flying Sports Association of Germany (MFSD).
The DAeC represents air sports in the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB) and - as one of the founding members - in the world air sports federation FAI, Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, Lausanne.
About 100,000 air sportsmen are organized in about 2,000 clubs in the DAeC member associations. The athletes are active in the following air sports: gliding, ballooning, ultralight flying, model flying, motorized flying, hang gliding, paragliding and parachuting.
